Dear Colleagues,

On behave of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to announce the joint meeting of the 78th meeting of Japanese Society for Interferon and Cytokine Research and the 21th International Symposium of Macrophage Molecular and Cellular Biology to be held from 20 to 21 May, 2013, at Toshi Center Hotel, Tokyo, Japan. The theme of the meeting is “Cross-talk between innate and adaptive immunity: network among macrophages, dendritic cells and helper T cells”.

The last Joint meeting JSICR-MMCB, which took place in Osaka, Japan May 2011, was a marvelous success with more than 300 participants from both Japan and abroad, even catastrophic disasters and incidents took place in two months before the congress. We are proud of having the second joint meeting, which is followed by important findings on cross-talk between players in innate and acquired immunity, and by successful clinical applications of interferons and cytokines to therapeutics, of cancers, leukemia, hepatitis, and autoimmune diseases in these days.

This symposium is again to provide the state of art in the aforementioned fields of immunology and cytokine biology.It will feature invited plenary talks by the outstanding researchers from Japan and abroad, and open discussions through six sessions. There are also poster presentations, and selected excellent posters will be awarded in order to encourage young investigators. We will also have a nice get-together party where the members of the two societies and invited speakers will be mixed together to know each other and to promote fruitful interactions and collaborations in future.

The meeting venue Toshi Center Hotel is an excellent hotel located in the heart of Tokyo, and is very close to the Palace. Thus, every participant will find the meeting place easy for access. Furthermore, the meeting place is convenient to go sightseeing and shopping around Tokyo – the mixed city of the old and the modern, using well-developed transport systems. The meeting time will also be one of the best seasons in Japan. We sincerely hope that young and experienced researchers from both domestic and abroad will enjoy the exciting scientific programs, friendly interactions, in this joint meeting.
